Objectives<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The aim of the project is to promote extensive reading (<\/strong>reading for pleasure)<\/strong>\u00a0through book-related activities, carried out collaboratively with peers worldwide, thus create cultural bridges among countries with the assistance of technology and the love of a good story.<\/span><\/p>\n

As this project runs all year-round, you may choose to participate in <\/span><\/span>Phase 1<\/span>, Phase 2<\/span> or Phase 3.<\/span>\u00a0 Former participants have participated in all of them, but you get to choose the one that adapts best for your class learning interests.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Each phase has <\/span><\/span>a set of tasks that need to be completed.<\/span>

<\/a>P<\/span><\/b>hase 1<\/span> <\/b>(<\/b>Autumn): “Share a book”\u00a0\u00a0REGISTER HERE<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/a>

NOTE – Flipgrid was used in the past, but this tool is no longer available.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Project coordinators match classes and add class teachers to the Facebook group. If desired, one class can work with more than one peer school.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Teachers register on Fligrid and hand out the project\u2019s\u00a0 link to all students.<\/span>
    \n Students pick their favorite book and upload a 1-minute presentation about their favorite book. You may start with:<\/span>
    \n \u00a0\u201cHello, my name is Amanda and I am from New York City, in the United States of America. My favorite book is \u201cI know why the birdcage sang\u201d, by Maya Angelou. I like this book because\u2026\u201d<\/em> <\/span><\/strong><\/span>
    \n Include as much personal information as desired so others get to know you better. But please, avoid revealing the end of the story. <\/span>We want to promote reading and curiosity. No spoilers, please.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n
  3. After posting their video capsule, students comment on at least two other student posts in the same team. Nonetheless, we suggest they interact with different classes.\u00a0 The first video is to introduce themselves and their favorite books on the topic called \u201cMy favorite book is\u2026\u201d. Students are encouraged to promote books written in any language but the videos reports must be in English.\u00a0 The second video is uploaded to the topic called \u201cThe most preferred genre in ____ is\u2026\u201dAfter listening to their counterparts in other countries, students will make a report\/presentation and create a video that explains literary preferences in other nations.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. We end with a reading\u00a0 conference<\/strong> with a surprise keynote writer.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Advertising and registration<\/i><\/b><\/span>–<\/span> December (2023) and January (2024)\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

    Starting date<\/i><\/b><\/span> – <\/span>February 5. On that day, students are expected to start a Facebook Live reading marathon to celebrate the World Read Aloud Day<\/a><\/span><\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

    For the following weeks, students create short stories in electronic format that will be uploaded to the Kidspace school page (Google Docs e). There will be also recorded\u00a0 video workshops from writers to help students in creative writing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Their deadline for uploading all students stories is\u00a0 March 2nd. On March 5, classes will read their colleagues written productions to celebrate World Book Day<\/a> by reading their colleagues productions<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

    Students upload a video where they read the colleagues stories to other people (it can be family members, or other grades in school).<\/span><\/p>\n

    Ending date<\/b> –\u00a0 May 17, 2024. <\/span><\/span>
