\u00a0We’ll have two levels of play again this year:\u00a0Landmark Primary<\/b>\u00a0(Group A and Group B) and\u00a0Landmark Challenge<\/b>. School teams may choose to participate in one of these levels. The games will be carried out separately, but on the\u00a0same<\/u>\u00a0timeline. \u00a0Each team creates 9 clever clues for a secret Landmark somewhere in the world. Each team is represented by a single email address.
\n(Send all 9 clues & your answer to the project coordinator when you join.<\/em>)<\/span><\/p>\n

Landmark Primary Game: (<\/b>Example Clue Sets from 2021<\/a>)<\/b><\/span>
\nPrimary Clues must have at least\u00a0(1)<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0one coordinate (latitude or longitude);\u00a0(2)<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0at least 1 relevant associated date; and\u00a0(3)<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0a hemisphere-related clue. If subject matter such as math or history is used to give clues, it should fall within the reasonable knowledge area of kids ages 9 – 11. Clues should be\u00a0fact-based\u00a0as much as possible. Finally, the Landmark must exist or have existed at one time in history on planet Earth.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Landmark Challenge Game: (<\/b>Example Clue Sets from 2021<\/a>)<\/b><\/span>
\nThis is the Pro game.\u00a0Challenge Clues are open-ended as in our past Landmark projects. Our\u00a0advanced players\u00a0should keep in mind that the game is more rewarding and fun when others have enough information to make some progress. Remember that students from around the world are reading your clues. This means that some “local” clues might be impossible to figure out.\u00a0 Please think globally.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

NOTE: Teams are\u00a0<\/strong>not allowed to Guess the Landmarks during the project<\/strong>, but only to ask ONE\u00a0 Yes or No question of each team per week. Responses can only say Yes or No, but no other details. We will all use Answer Sheets at the end of the project.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

EXAMPLE CLUES<\/strong>:<\/span>
\n<\/span>Here are Clues and the Answer from Mrs. Lowe’s grade 4 in Australia,
\n(7A Team Penguins)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Week 1:<\/span>
\n 1. This landmark was an internment camp during World War I.
\n2. Several naturally occurring salt lakes can be found at this landmark.
\n3. This landmark has more than 13 shipwrecks in the surrounding area.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Week 2:<\/span>
\n 4. More than 500,000 people visit this landmark each year.
\n5. This landmark is located 18 kilometres off the coast.
\n6. This landmark is 11 kilometres long.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Week 3:<\/span>
\n 7. This landmark was named in 1696<\/strong><\/span>.
\n8. You can find this landmark between 100 and 125 degrees east longitude.<\/strong><\/span>
\n9. This landmark is in the southern hemisphere<\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Sending Questions & Replying to Questions<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

When teams send email about these clues, the Questions must be constructed to be answered with\u00a0<\/span>Yes<\/b>\u00a0or\u00a0No<\/b>.\u00a0<\/span>These questions are to be sent DIRECTLY TO THE TEAM’S EMAIL ADDRESS.\u00a0Each team is represented by a single email address.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nReply with a yes or no when receiving a question from another team. It is very helpful if you will\u00a0send the original question back\u00a0<\/strong>with your reply to help teams organize and track all of the project information. Be sure to identify yourself when you reply. And feel free to exchange other information and conversation as you interact in this project.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
